Workshop Scope and Topics:

With 5G system deployment proceeding at a fast pace, and with standardization bodies completing the specification of features enabling full verticals integration in 5G, research seems increasingly interested in looking beyond. It is currently unclear the degree of innovation which can still be absorbed by 5G systems, as unclear are the use cases 5G may be unable to support, justifying the inception of a next generation. In this transition phase, it will be crucial to examine emerging technologies in the fields of wireless, optical and satellite communications, networking, network management, storage and computing, virtualization, multimedia and vertical applications, etc. to identify potential enablers which may become Beyond 5G (B5G) network cornerstones. Equally relevant is envisioning future services and examine their potential requirements, which may be the drivers behind next generation networks. The workshop is organized with the ambition to move a first step in both directions, and foster a discussion among matter experts which may help orient research in the years to come.

Workshop Format:

The workshop, by invitation only, will host distinguished speakers from Academia and Industry, who will be kindly requested to present their views on B5G emerging technologies and/or on next generation services and applications. The workshop will run under the Chatham House Rule. The workshop is organized by the 5G-VINNI project, a joint undertaking by several telecommunication operators, equipment vendors, research institutes and other organisations.
